JMCC chair asks South Sudanese to surrender illegal guns

To discuss general security situation in Juba and around the country, the Joint Military Ceasefire Commission (JMCC) held its meeting on Monday.

In his opening remarks, JMCC Chairperson Maj. Gen. Majier Deng Kur, called on the international community to enhance support towards ending hostilities among parties.

He said disarmament of communities is ongoing across the country and over 200 illegal firearms have so far been recovered.

He called on South Sudanese in possession of illicit weapons to surrender to the government.

JMCC is described in Chapter II, Article 3.3 of the Agreement of the Resolution of the Conflict of South Sudan (ARCSS).

It  is responsible for oversight and co-ordination of forces in cantonment and barracks, and reports to the Commanders in Chief of the respective warring parties to the ARCSS.
