JMCC holds its 42nd meeting; Gen. Gatwech takes over Chairmanship for a 3 months months

The Joint Military Ceasefire Commission (JMCC) has on Wednesday held its 42nd meeting in Juba.

During the meeting, the outgoing JMCC Chairperson Maj. Gen. Majier Deng Kur, gave an update of the security situation in the capital, and around the country.

He said the security situation has been “calm” for the past few weeks, except what he called increasing incidents of “criminal attacks” within the city.

The three months JMCC chairmanship  of Maj. Gen. Deng’s from the SPMLM-IG ended on Wednesday.

Maj. Gen. Gabriel Gatwech (IO) took over the mantle for a period of three months, rotational.

According to the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (ARCSS), JMCC is responsible for the oversight and coordination of forces in cantonment and barracks and report to Commanders-in-Chief of the respective warring parties. Gen. Gatwech also gave an update on the SPLM-IO reorganisation bid

Military Commanders from IO and IG, JMEC Security Advisors, CTSAMM and UNMISS attending the meeting.

Also in attendance was an advisor to the Joint Operation Centre (JOC), Dan Rude. He gave an update on the JOC operations in Juba and progress so far made in its mandate.
