Parties “willing” to participate in the HLRF, says IGAD Special Envoy

South Sudan warring parties and other stakeholders are “willing and ready” to participate in the High-Level Revitalization Forum (HLRF), the IGAD Special Envoy to South Sudan has said.

Speaking when he briefed the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) on Thursday, Amb. Ismail Wais said.

Amb. Wais spoke ahead of IGAD Council of Ministers high-level meeting with the Transitional Government of National Unity.

The meeting is part of the other high profile meeting that is aimed to achieve a middle ground for the HLRF.

The ministers expected in Juba are Hon. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Hon. Amina Mohammed, Minister of Foreign Affairs, (Kenya) and Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sam Kutesa.

Others are Hon. Professor Ibrahim Ghandour, Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Republic of Sudan, Hon. Mohamoud Ali Youssouf, Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Republic of Djibouti and Hon. Abdulkadir Ahmedkheyir Abdi, State Minister for the Federal Republic of Somalia.

Amb. Wais said, the convergence of the Ministers in Juba shows the willingness of region to achieve a lasting solution to the conflict in South Sudan.

JMEC welcomes the regional and international efforts and noted its total support in the pre, during and post preparations of the Forum, expected to be held in the coming weeks.
