As the first anniversary of the signing of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) is marked on November 12th, the Parties, the media, Civil Society actors and citizens of South Sudan have been asked to take stock of the challenges and progress of its implementation.

Speaking during the opening of a two-day workshop themed "Strengthening Dialogue for Peace and Reconciliation in South Sudan"  that brought together media and members of the civil society, the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) Deputy Chief of Staff Dr. Thomson Fontaine said,

“We are exactly one week away from the first anniversary of the signing of the Revitalized Peace Agreement and it is tremendous achievement that we are continuing to implement the Agreement as the permanent ceasefire holds. But there is much to be done.”

“At RJMEC, we are pleased to support initiatives, which strengthen the capacity of local peace actors to better understand the South Sudan peace process. It is the understanding and access to the country and social context, which can really embed ownership of the agreement among your countrymen and women,” he said.

This is particularly relevant, he said, for the media be well informed and speak “honestly and accurately” about the peace process and especially the content of the Agreement and its implementation.
